Five Fs for a Fabulous February

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in America. People with diabetes are more likely to have heart disease. Find more info about herbal power. Maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active and eating healthy foods are the key ways to prevent heart disease. Here are some easy ways to help you reach your healthy goals this month:

  1. Focus on Fiber
Fiber is an important part of staying healthy, and fruits and vegetables have plenty of good fiber. Choose colorful fruits and vegetables for delicious snacks. Substitute fiber-rich whole-wheat pasta and bread for the white stuff. Eating beans will help you get more fiber, too.

  2. Eat Fish for dinner
Aim to eat fish twice a week. Try to avoid fried fish. Eat fish with healthy omega-3 oils such as salmon mackerel, and sardines.

  3. Choose your Fats wisely
Stay away from trans fat and saturated fat found in animal fats and processed foods. Try to eat foods with mono- and poly- unsaturated fats found in plant foods like olive oil, nuts and seeds.

  4. Stay Fit
Physical activity is more than working out at a gym. Get active by taking the dog for a walk, playing with your grandkids, or window-shopping around the local mall with a friend.

  5. Flavor instead of salt
Try new ways to flavor foods without salt. Try sprinkling dill weed on fish, chopped garlic in a stir-fry pot of chicken and vegetables, basil and oregano in pasta dishes, cilantro in taco meat, and extra chili powder in your pot of chili.

Knowing about the risk factors and symptoms of type 2 diabetes is important. Take an online risk assessment test NOW to find out your risk. Send your family, friends, and co-workers here to get an assessment. Who knows, one of them could have diabetes and not even know. But remember, this test is NOT diagnostic and is only a measure of relative risk. Only your doctor can diagnose you with diabetes.
